Caelius Island ;; Canine RPG « Result #1 on Aug 20, 2008, 1:20am »
Caelius Island, meaning "heaven", is far from that. Caelius is a huge chunk of land mass in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, that is completely overrun by wild dogs. The island is unmapped and unknown to the public, for a certain reason the government hides. It's been so long ago that the incident occurred, most dog that live there now have been born on the island. Only a few elders remain that remember the horrific story of when they were first abandoned on Caelius.
These dogs have grown up hearing the stories of how it all happened. It's been said that some scientists working for the government were messing around in the lab one day. After mixing and creating new chemicals they believed to have found some sort of cure. They tested the so called cure on mice and rats first, and when it seemed to be going well, they started to use cats, dogs, and other species.
Not long after, they discovered something had gone wrong. Through the cure, a new disease formed, that only affected dogs. The virus sweeped across the nation, so quickly, that they were unsure of how it spread. It was very deadly and if a human were bitten by an infected dog, death was most likely to occur.
The government was in panic. They tried to stop the spread of the virus and find a cure, but the results were inconclusive. Drastic measures had to be taken, as many people and canines have already experienced deaths.
Trying to keep it a secret as best as they could, the government enforced each and every canine in the country to be tested. If results came out positive, they would be shipped off to an island far out into the Pacific. They left a reasonable supply of fresh, living, meat, and ensured that there was fresh water sources across the island. With so much breeding and reproducing, they eventually became immune to the virus.
Caelius was big enough for the canines to split up into there own groups and live among there own species of dog. Fights broke out every so often, and eventually it turned into one huge war. Not many dogs populated the island at that time, but most of the species were, the once-domesticated dogs, and wolves - They were the only survivors. Today, they try their best to live at peace, only few fights tend to break out, and hardly any wars occur.
As the dogs expanded further into the island they made new discoveries, one of which was a vast area of ancient ruins. The history of the past civilizations lays unknown, but many new things are still uncovered. The dogs make use of the ruins anyway possible. So many stories to uncover. So many wars to fight. Can heaven really be found in the middle of an ocean?
The original Clans of Thunder, Wind, River, and Shadow were no match for what was coming next. A rain of fire, thunder exploding across the ground, then...silence.
So many years later, after the forest has recovered, the first strangely colored kit is born. And thus the story begins. But the Clans are running out of time... Will you be the one to tell the end?
[IN SHORT] Join as a cat in any color of the rainbow, and join in on an exciting, mysterious plot! Will the newly acquired powers go to the Clans' heads? Or is something much darker at work?
[WE OFFER]
A crazy, random yet helpful admin, who will make you a graphic for your character or guide you through something if you're new to proboards/roleplaying. Paintbrushes! They are our currency, and you can trade them for prizes in the Art Shop! Unique-ness! Join as a cat of any color or pattern, any! Want your deputy to be lime green with purple hearts and a white nose? Go ahead! The possibilities are endless! Different, all new Clans, with a mysterious history surrounding their creation, and each Clan's cats have different attributes.
--MountainClan - the strong, traditional warriors, with regular coat colors and patterns. Not very agile, but extremely powerful with exceptional climbing abilities. Cool and balanced, though shrouded in rumors. MountainClanners, of course, call the rough mountains their home, and rough it out in hail or drought, snow or sun. Well-known for growing to immense sizes as well.
--TwilightClan - the mysterious and secretive. These cats have the 'cool' colors of the rainbow, ranging from black to lime green, mostly blues and purples. This Clan is well-known for its cats being able to turn invisible, and walk without a single sound. They slumber during the day and hunt at night.
--TornadoClan - the fast and fiery. These proud warriors are well-known for their extremely fast speed and agility, nearly impossible to catch or outrun. Of course, they need to be, living out on the open plains where the winds are alot more wild. TornadoClanners consist of any coats with more than four or five colors, and usually have wild patterns and crazy colors.
--SunsetClan - the brave and loyal, alot like ThunderClan. SunsetClanner coats consist of the 'warm' colors of the rainbow, ranging from the deepest reds and browns to the brightest yellows and even white. They are able to stand perfectly motionless and blend into any background with a strange sort of camoflauge. They are well known for being valiant and noble, as well as having good stamina and being able to swim very well.
All leader positions are taken, but deputy, medicine cat, and warrior positions are still open! We just officially opened recently, with a whole new skin and revised plot, not to mention some extra Paintbrushes hidden here and there...

[Introduction to Sidewalk]
Running, running, always running But never getting anywhere Panting, reaching, struggling, gasping Falling, always falling You'll never reach the other side You'll never make it out alive So why try?
Everyone has a past. Everyone has a history, a tale of horror, a dark secret they don't want anyone to know about. When your own life is awash with misery and sorrow, you stop wondering why the others look beaten too. You don't need their suffering added to your own. You learn to deal with the grief by yourself. You close your heart, so you cannot feel, but the world doesn't stop crying.
The nightmare is never ending It just goes on and on It waits for you, once have have awoken Waiting for you to come back to it When all that awaits you is horror, fear, death Why bother to sleep?
Yes, we all have our own story, our own unique tale of woe. But they're all the same really, in the end. A story about sadness, pain, heartbreak. No one can change the past. But you can change the future. The past says who you were. Only you can say who you will be. By the way you act today. By the way you act tomorrow, and the day after that. By the way you cope with the hand you were dealt. Those who have courage overcome the darkness and step forth into the light. And it is here, in this place of new beginnings, where such things happen. This is the place where the scars of the past are healed, the place where the frightened and abused learn to trust again. This is the place where the wild at heart at last learn to dream once more.
Here is your out Ahead of you, the end to the nightmares It's not the light at the end of the tunnel It's another, stronger light, there in the distance There, on the horizon, coming with the rising sun I know it looks far, but I'll be there with you Every step of the way Together, we can escape the torment Are you coming?
These ashes come to rise as wings... Prologue|| Water, fresh and lush, spilled from the spine of indigo mountains and into their overflowing brook. The water looked as if made of liquidated crystals, glittering like the frost of the stars above their whirling heads. Their hearts hammered within their briskets as they adrenaline rush matched that of the river that lapped at their gliding paws. He, the silver tabby tom, stood boldly on one side. She, the bobtail tabby she-cat, stood on the other and all four golden-tawny eyes meshed with others. No one was here but these two - no other sounds but the melded beating of their hearts. He leaped forward, coming closer and closer until at last, Falconclaw of AshClan, and Taupesong - with the half-Clan blood of SootClan - of SinterClan met at a toppling embankment and vowed to always love the other. A family was cultivated there, in their secret solace. And the blood of their kin spilled like scarlet drops of rain into the blood of the others in unexpected, and unknown ways.
These were the days of crimson rain. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter One: Lesser war|| The Clans have now long-known peace in their brutal worlds. There are the occasional half-Clan relationships - perhaps legacies of the "Crimson Rain" days - and boundary disputes; but nothing that could set a fire on Clan barriers. This chronic string of peace puts the Clans at unease, making them vulnerable to askance and dubious demeanors. How is it possible that no wars have been conjured all this time? Suddenly it seems as if no other Clan is worth trusting at all. Those of half-Clan, loner, or kittypet heritage are outcasts, living on the outside looking in. They form a motley crew of their own, ravenous for socialization. Friendships between Clans are forbidden and no outside communications are allowed. Gatherings are filled with pointless arguments, until all leaders decide to completely ignore the other Clans; it’s as if each Clan is the only one alive in these bitter, broken days. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter Two: Saving our adversaries...|| All the while CrucibleClan, built on banished half-Clan cats, loners and kittypets, make plans to collaborate as one to save their Clans - even if they are the ones who had brought them to this devastation. If they cannot find a way to save this destruction, there may be no salvation. But can those in exile ever save those who had wronged them so? Their adopted leader, Slagfrost, an astute and noble she-cat of obsidian and ivory, has finally moved the clockwork of her brain in just the right angles; she has formed the perfect plan to save the three Clans. But as she goes to tell them how they would be, at last, saved, her long lost brother steps from the shadows and snaps her neck before the secret can spill like the myriad shadows he brings. He combines his rogues with their great elemental mix, and usurps their CrucibleClan and transforms it into monstrosities and grave dances. "Spies" are placed in each Clan, blending and melding with their assigned groups. They begin to spread lies and murmurs of spite and abhorrence. They talk of stolen prey between neighboring Clans, attempting to create mass warfare and bloodshed. The spies begin to actually slaughter cats, and murders are blamed on the Clans that live beside them. The battles are at last boiling…this is their only chance to take over the land of Cinder Skies. While the Clans are war-bled and emaciated, they seize these ashen homes and become the rulers of the volcano. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter Four: Where does our real blood drizzle?|| So it is up the remaining Clan members to band together as one strong assailment, versus three preemptive strikes in weak, feeble attacks. Their guilt pours into one lake of affiliation; how could they have ever kicked cats from their own Clans? Now they must work to save their exiled members, and destroy the angry rogue-demons before they murder each and every one... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Where do your loyalties lie?

- MISC. RULES AND AD REMOVAL FOR FIREFOX USERS -
The ad-removal works only with Firefox, so if you don't have it, go get it! This will not only remove ads from Proboards, but also from sites like Neopets. It doesn't remove the ad from the site through coding, but through elimating it visually. (:
TDN (The Daily Neopets) has a brilliant article on how to use the AdBlock feature that's available with Firefox.

- POSTING IN CHARACTER AND CHARACTER RELATIONS -
1) In order to make certain things in your post stand out, you're allowed to use special effects (bolding, underlining, italics, etc) to do so. You may also use images as post toppers, or the post up in a legible manner. Don't over do it, however. Common sense will tell you when to stop adding fancy decorations, and if it doesn't, then someone else will.
2) All dialog should be in quotation marks (" and "). Bolding text does not subsitute them. Also, all thought patterns that are directly stated (Might as well try, Jim thought) should be written in italics. Thought patterns that are not directly stated (Jim thought he might as well try.) should not be italicized.
3) We've ready gone over what roleplaying is considered to be, at least here at SYS, but again (seeing as it really is a problem) we must enforce that. We are not a site for beginners, but we also are not a site for advanced roleplayers that tend to do overkill on every sentence they write. Your posts should be written like prose, not poetry, and not full of flowery words that have no place.
No one wants to waste time they could be writing to read about Mary Jane's scarlet, rosy cheeks that glow in the sunlight, or Jim's suede pants that scrunch with each and every dreadful step he makes. (The first half of the password to get to the character creation board is "ihave".) No one tends to care about small things.
A paragraph is plenty enough for a complete post, as long as it has fundamentals and replies to the initial message. Any length above five sentences will make most roleplayers happy, as long as the post is sensible and replies to what was posted previously. It's what's in the reply that has meaning, not the length. Quality not quantity.
4) All posts are to be made on their respective accounts. Posts for Mary Jane shouldn't be made from Jim Bo's account.
5) If your board contains mature content, the board's title must issue some sort of warning. The site is rated mature, but that doesn't mean that every post is going to be foul. All offensive posts and topics must be marked with a warning.
6) Of course, like all sensible roleplaying sites, there are several forbidden acts. God-moding, power-playing, Mary-Sues, Gary-Stus, and the like are not acceptable here. On countless HP sites you'll see beautiful celebrity-like characters, but that is not acceptable here.
7) You are allowed to play the same character from the same account in no more than two places at once. This tends to speed things up and help with keeping roleplaying active.
8) If you are going to move the roleplay from one board to the next, and wish to close the topic of the previous roleplay, please post a message so that the topic can be moved to the Pensive of Magical Memories.
9) The outcome of a non-magical fight, or magical duel, is to be decided before the fight has taken place. The fight should have been discussed between those that are involved, and though it doesn't have to be announced until the end for the public to see, the winner MUST be decided on. Fights should not last for more than two pages, and with each post, it is expected that the characters will tire. If ever happens that the fight goes beyond two pages, no one has been exhausted, and no one has one, both characters will lose, and those involved will be warned.
Related Issues
1) We do NOT! accept celebrity-claim characters. If you are playing a canon character, feel free to use the images provided by the actors, but other characters ARE NOT TO USE CELEBRITY IMAGES. This is to be enforced at all costs. Regular witches and wizards don't look like celebrities, so there is absolutely no reason you should have to play one. If you can't find an image that suits your character, don't use one. (THe last half of the password to get to the character creation board is "readtherules".) Celebrities do not make the Harry Potter roleplaying societies go around.
2) Your student character can only be a witch or wizard. There are no vampires or werewolves available for students at this time. Certain staff positions, however, may be made available under those titles upon request. Canon characters that are vampires, werewolves, veela, etc, may continue being played as such.

- ADVERTISING AND AFFILIATING -
1) Guests and members are encouraged to advertise their own sites on our Advertising board.
A. Advertisements may consist of any site, from Harry Potter to Buffy, from stray dogs to high schools. Advertisements are not restricted to any certain type, we accept all and every kind. (Sites found to be offensive in the area of sexual content or otherwise, will be removed and possibly reported to Proboards staff.)
B. We do not require you to fill out a form in order to advertise.
C. Advertisements may be posted in any format that the poster may want.
D. All sites advertised will receive a SYS advertisement linking back. If your site is not guest friendly, requires a form of some sort, or is otherwise not accepting advertisements, your advertisement will be removed.
2) Affiliating status for SYS is located on the Affiliating board. If open, all guests and members are encouraged to try for affiliation. If closed, only members may request affiliation. There is a more in-depth guide to affiliating with SYS on the Affiliating board.

- POSTING OUT OF CHARACTER -
1) This shouldn't have to be said, but sometimes, it really should. It is important that every member (from admins to newbies) are treated equally. Administrators make the rules and enforce them, but are people too, and deserve as much respect as the newest member; and vise versa. Disrespecting someone, and purposefully offending them, is a highly punishable offense. Very few warnings are given for this sort of behavior, and it's often a one-way ticket to deletion.
2) Along with number one, poor behavior (name calling, insulting, excessive cursing, purposeful flooding of topics, etc) is deeply frowned upon. You will be warned for the offense, but if it continues, you will be removed from the site.
3) You are not allowed to curse out of character in excess or out of context. That doesn't mean you aren't allowed to curse at all, but just remember, they aren't necessarily pretty words, and are frowned upon by the... general public.
4) Your grammar and spelling should be kept neat and tidy, even out of character. I don't see why, if you can take the time to type properly for a roleplay post, you wouldn't be able to remain sophisticated enough to do the same for out character chatting. Occasionally, chat speak is allowed, in the event of having fun or needing to be quick about something.
5) Seeing as this is a community, you are encouraged to have out of character games and conversations. It wouldn't be any fun if all we did was roleplay, would it? The Muggle Talk forum is for guests and members alike, and again, you are encouraged to talk among each other about the mundane. (:

- SIGNING UP / MAKING ACCOUNTS -
1) First of all, you are allowed three maximum characters free of charge* to play as you wish. Those three characters can be anything, provided you have successfully applied and been approved for a position. You must create a new account for each of these characters and modify the account's settings to suit him or her.
2) Your username can only consist of your character's first initial and whole last name. IE: A. Dumbledore. Any other username will be replaced with "Username Unacceptable" until changed.
All characters are initially recognized by their last names, hence the reason for our madness.
* Extra characters can be purchased through the use of our points system. Each new character template costs seventy (70) Galleons, which can be earned in various ways. To learn more about Galleons, head over to the out of character market, The Shrieking Shack.

- BEFORE YOU JOIN -
Before we get started, there is something very important you should know. It isn't about Harry Potter, not about the forum, not about members or signing up, but it is about roleplaying. In order to join this forum you must realize, unlike so many people, that roleplaying is an art. And like any art, there are limits to how creative your words and images can be. There is such a thing as overkill, and overkill is not appreciated in the least.
Roleplaying is about interacting with the surrounding characters and the environment, not describing each golden lock of honey-colored hair Ms. Marley might possess. It isn't about spilling their past, present, and future in eight long paragraphs, or telling the readers every bit of detail as to what the character is all about. Roleplaying is about figuring things out for yourself as a player, and developing things together as friends and equals.
SYS is not a competitive site. We do not expect each member to post ten paragraphs for each post, in extensive detail, with a one sentence reply that actually had something to do with the post they were responding to. If posts like this are spotted amongst the roleplay, offenders will be punished on the spot. SYS does not stand this sort of roleplaying; and it's obvious what we're talking about.
Short, sweet, simple, and to-the-point posts are what we require. We want more than a paragraph, oh yes, but we definitely don't want a novel. We want legible, sensible posts that aren't flowery and sugary. We want roleplaying, not poetry.
Always remember, keep it simple and discuss things that ONLY need to be discussed in your post.
Rules and Regulations « Result #12 on Apr 6, 2008, 10:26pm »
